IM almost 3 years into this thing and I just realized I have never posted anything from Weldon Irvine. I woke up this morning... having had a little too much fun lastnight. Dug around in my music collection for something to get me going. Had to be something mellow... this is what I dug up. "Morning Sunshine"
Got a call from one of my best friends the other night asking about this podcast. Ive been so busy lately (musiclovr.com is sponsoring a local festival) I havent had time to post but he got me thinking about how much I love posting here. So heres another sample post.
Snoop samples from two people on this one. One is from the intro of the video. The song is Help (somebody please) from the The Mighty O'Jays. Listen to the first part of the video below. And of course Gin and Juice samples George McCrae's I Get Lifted.
Must be fate... I see Scott Storch put his multi million dollar yacht up for sale on Ebay (Photo above). Times are hard I guess. Maybe its just better to daydream about yachts lol.
Well I thought I should continue with my yachting soundtrack. Here is a two for one. First up Michael Jackson with I cant Help it. Followed by Sherrick with Just Call.
I have always wanted to make a post about what my ultimate yachting soundtrack would be. Here are a few reasons why I havent done one yet.
A) no yacht
B) lazy
C) did I mention I dont have a yacht?
Anyway, this is one of the songs that would be included. Its such a nice day here today. Perfect weather for being on a yacht with some paul hardcastle playing in the background. maybe one day once MUSICLOVR.COM blows up
It snowed this morning but now its 55 degrees outside. Strange weather but right now it feels pretty good out there. So I thought I throw on a little old school, "feel good" dance music. This song has been sampled quite a bit too (Biz Markie and Faith Evans) but here is the original. I Hear Music in the Streets by Unlimited Touch. Classic jam to get the party going.
Ive mentioned madlib many times on this podcast. one of my fav producers of all time. Creative, unique, varied... he makes his own way and I appreciate that. Amazing how his music is soooo different from the current hiphop / snap/ lil crap thats out now. But I wont start that conversation up again....
So without further delay, here is Madlib with "understanding" which samples Black Ivory's You and I which features a young, pre Cameo Larry Blackmon.
Alright Ive been wanting to do this post for a while now...
Gloria Jones records Tainted Love for motown. Years later, SoftCell re interprets Tainted Love and its huge. Many people re recored it afterwards including Marilyn Manson, The Pussycat Dolls etc... and even Levis uses it in a popular commercial. Not too long ago, Rihanna sampled the the Softcell version for her song SOS. Peep the progression...
Valentines day came and went before I was able to post a song. I had the idea to post this song days ago but Im just now getting around to it. Donny Hathaway with I love you more than you ever know. Great lyrics... close your eyes and just really listen to what he is saying.
A lot of people are talking about change. We just had Super Tuesday and it got me thinking about all the great music that has been made over the years about change and looking forward to a bright future. I thought I would post a few of my favorite songs related to that. There are many I left out but these are some of my personal favs. it was really difficult choosing songs for this post because again there are so many great ones but... it is what it is.
